Week 1

A wonderful way to start working on a project about climate change; reconnecting with a memory of us in nature. The memory I recalled in class today was an emotionally charged time in my life. This took place right at the start of my senior year of college, when I was feeling a lot of internal and external pressure. I think reconnecting to this time really brought up a lot of the feelings that I am experiencing currently starting a masters is an intense time not to mention the pandemic. But I also think of the many ways that I have grown and I’ve learned to be kinder to myself. Nature has meant to be a contemplative place where I can reflect and reconnect with myself.

After an initial brainstorm, I can’t find a statistic or fact to connect using nature as a contemplative sanitary and the effects of climate change. I’m sure there could be something out there but nothing is ringing true to my creative writing assignment.

After some more brainstorming I thought about my relationship to food and how much I love to cook and bake. That led me down the path of looking into international food shortages and food waste. Now I am looking into a statistic that will fit my theme and then I will let the statistic dictate the food chosen to use as type. The food will inform the type choice and so on and so on.

Time for some mood board building!

On the right is some fun images where food is type and this is the form I am trying to achieve but rather than a playful vibe I’m going for a more somber tone.

Here are some articles that I am combing through looking for a trusted stat that will inform my work:

I’ve decided that the call to action will be telling the audience to eat local because that will ultimately lower waste will disperse big agro https://farmersmarketcoalition.org/
(I don’t know if the farmers market coalition would really go for something this serious and negative they seem to be a very wholesome organization but its a narrative that makes sense so I’m just going with it)
